Twenty-eight chefs, including five restaurants, entered the competition with their own unique blend of chili.  The contest categories included red meat, white meat, wild game and vegetarian. There was also separate competitions for Restaurants, Best Decorated, and President’s, Mayor’s and People’s Choice awards.

An award was also presented for Best Chili Name and included entrants such as 11 Mile Inferno, Three Beer Chili, Voodoo Brew, Hot Romance to Warm the Chilliest Heart, Connection Concoction Re(a)d, and Renee’s Rootin Tootin Red Chili.

For the first time in its 13 year history, there was also a separate competition established between the three St. Clair Shores School Districts. In addition to cash awards, the winning school district received the “Chili Bowl” traveling award to display in the school’s trophy case.

The 1^st Place Entries are as follows:

Best Restaurant:  Blossom Heath’s Crop Duster

Best Individual Red Meat: Dale Rosenquist’s Gunsmoke-N-Honey

Best Individual White Meat: Timothy and Theresa’s T-N-T Turkey Tootin Chili

Best Wild Game: Ruth Sliva’s Deer Hunters Delight

Best Decorated Space: Dale Rosenquist’s Gunsmoke-N-Honey

Best Chili Name: Blossom Heath’s Crop Duster

President’s Choice Award: Lakeview Schools’ 11 Mile Inferno

Mayor’s Choice Award: Cherie Mascarello’s Hog Wild Chili

People’s Choice Award: Keith Millard’s K&M Chili (This was Keith’s second year in a row winning this award).

School District Award: Lake Shores Schools’ Chili in the Buff

Nearly 300 people attended the Cook-Off which was held at Blossom Heath Inn, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.  The $7 admission fee included a taste of each chili entry with pop, beer and wine available at a nominal fee.  According to Jim Kaza, Project Co-Chairman, early estimates are that approximately $1500 was raised to help support community projects sponsored by the Optimist Club of St. Clair Shores and the Nautical Mile Merchants Association.

Chip reported the photo is a fishing boat heading out of the harbor at Miller Marina.  It was taken 9-8-2012 @ 8:28 am with a Nikon D-5100 camera equipped with an AF-S Nikkor 18-55 mm 1:3.5-5.6G lens and Kenko 52 mm fisheye lens

Chip was presented with $100 Nautical Mile Bucks as winner.  The check was presented by Brad Simmons, vice president of the NMMA Board of Directors.
