Nestled in the heart of the Nautical Mile, the Jefferson Yacht Club welcomes the boating season with the traditional pomp and circumstance at their 56th Annual Blessing of the Fleet on Saturday, June 7th. The ceremony takes place at 10am behind the Tin Fish Restaurant within the Jefferson Beach Marina. Representative Sarah Roberts, Mayor Pro-Tem Candice Rusie and other City representatives, Macomb County Marine Division, U.S. Coast Guard and Great Lakes Sea Cadets, as well as singer Courtney Froehlich and bagpiper John Cataldo also participate in the event. WDIV Reporter Lauren Podell will also be reporting live from the event. The public is welcome to join in on this event by car or by foot, but all boats participating in the blessing ceremony must be pre-registered through the Jefferson Yacht Club as space is limited.
The JYC then opens its doors to the public for their flag-raising ceremony at 2pm, followed by a poolside party and BBQ, including music by Jimmy Lewis under the pavilion from 4 to 8pm.
JYC is located on Jefferson between 9 Mile and 10 Mile Roads at the entrance of the Jefferson Beach Marina, one of the numerous beautiful marinas on the Nautical Mile.
